Tonight starts the beginning of the European season for the bigger leagues, and let’s see if we can start off with some good wins.

Croatian 1st Division
Slaven DNB to beat Zagreb @ 1.83 (Bet365) – 2 points

England Championship
Cardiff to beat Huddersfield @ 1.85 (Betfair) – 3 points

Cardiff City are now the hot favorites for the Championship season, and are looking to kick off this season in firing fashion with a win on opening night in front of their home fans.

Malky Mackay has no major injury concerns ahead of this game tonight and after a terffic pre-season winning all of their games, they look solid to start off in fine fashion. Although they were eliminated from the Capital One cup, they had played well and even took an early lead with a lot of youngsters getting exposure. Kevin McNaughton, Mark Hudson, Ben Turner and Andrew Taylor all weren’t present in mid-week due to injuries and are now recovered.

The story seems set for Craig Bellamy who is set to permanently join his boy-hood club Cardiff City to try and take them to the Premiership where they have reached the semi finals or better in the last 3 seasons. With a good set of attackers to compliment him including Rob Earnshaw, Peter Whittingam, Heidar Helgusson and Etien Velikonja.

Huddersfield had a fairy tale run to get into the championship last season, led in the goal scoring efforts by Jordan Rhodes. Huddersfield had a tough efforts to get in, and their first pick of the action for the season in the Football league, resulted in them getting knocked out by Preston by 2-0 scoreline. While Rhodes didn’t play the rest of the side did not provide any proof that they are likely to come up as solid players for a successful championship campaign.

This game is likely to be an extremely tight one for both teams, with neither liking to lose the game ahead of a long campaign, but the experience of playing in this division and the home crowd advantage should help Cardiff sneak this game.
